Tell me you’re not secretly thrilled that I didn’t let you think that winter was over in February. Most of the country is under another winter advisory, the Midwest is poised for an additional storm bringing snow, snow, snow. Get ready to use your hand gestures but make sure it is this one and not that other one. This one is sign language for love.
We sure need love during rugged times, don’t we?
During the winter freeze, thaw, flooding, icing, more snow, deep snow, shoveling projects, salting issues, heavy clothing, feeling chilled–yea, we need a ton of lovin’.
So here it is–love of self and love of home and love of loved ones.
1. A winter bouquet filling a hefty vase with greens, citrus on wires or sticks, bright aromatic flowers, and some winter greens.
Go to your local grocery and just buy a bunch of these items and put them together yourself. You’ll have fun doing it, your hands will smell invigorating, and you will be proud of whatever you create. This is a fool proof project.
2. Instead of trying to escape the weather, indulge yourself in it fully, even if only for a short break–solo or with friends.
When my darling mother was alive, I would bundle us both us really good, fill a thermos with hot chocolate, turn the heater on high in the car, put the butt warmers on high, and drive us to the beach where we would take a walk–hand warmers inside our mittens.
3. Spend time by yourself thinking and dreaming about what you want your life to be in this very moment, in the year 2014, in this winter season. Keep your dream in your mind and in your heart. Place your positive energy into the vision that feeds your inspiration to make it come true. You can do this. Winter is the perfect time to do this.
4. Make yourself a really colorful, completely healthy veggie sandwich. This one is made of tomato, mozzarella cheese, arugula, salt, pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. A little green salad on the makes it a bigger deal of a meal.
5. If you need an extra friend during these chilly months, someone to keep you company but not add much in the way of demands, try a colorful fish. They are so peaceful to gaze at and they are quiet and yet entertaining. You can spend a little or a lot.
Most of all, just remember, not to do dumb things this winter. They leave a lasting impression.
