Did you know that his life spanned from 1452 – 1519? Did you know that his full legal name is Leonardo Di Ser Piero Da Vinci? I find it impressive and gorgeous to write out and then to pronounce–add a flare of Italian accent to it and I promise that you will feel a surge of creative energy.
What a powerful person he was–and continues to be for humanity. We had a movie, The Da Vinci Code, created a few short years ago. Remember? The book and the movie drew a lot of attention. The question is why? What did he do that was so powerful and so timeless?
He thought. He thought every day and all throughout the day. He allowed his mind to be creative and to genuinely create. He carried a notepad/sketchbook with him at all times. He drew what it was that came to mind. If you allow yourself to let go of your inhibitions, you can do the same. I can hear your mind clicking away as you are reading this–you are saying something negative along the lines of “oh no, I cannot do that…” but you can. The trick is to release yourself from the negative chatter. Leonardo did. He simply allowed, allowed his brain to travel to good places. He saw problems and challenges and worked his way through creating solutions.
Author Michael Gelb did a fabulous job of opening a new doorway into Leonardo and his works. His books are easy to read, enjoy, and become inspired by. I invite you to join me in celebrating both Michael and Leonardo. Why?
Look at what he was able to create as a result of allowing himself the freedom to do so?
Did you have any idea that he conceptualized the bicycle? Or the cross bow? Or the first flying machine? Or the calculator? In 1502, he sketched a bridge for the Turkish Sultan Bajazet II. Thought to be far too outrageous and fantastic, it was not until 500 years later that the bridge was unearthed, reviewed, and built in Norway.
