Do you believe this?
I used to think this was sort of a ridiculous idea–but not for very long. And I mostly thought that during times when I was troubled, like during my adolescence and some of the time during my 20s. That was tough times. I was rebellious and not allowing the wisdom that was already a part of me, to shine forth and guide me. Its kind of funny, sad, and pathetic all at the same time, these things that take place for us in this life experience.
My mother used to tell me, from the time I was a very young child, that we each have an inner voice that guides us–but only if we allow it. I knew how true that was however, when I helped myself to the Maraschino Cherries in the refrigerator….digging my entire little girl hand down into them to reach and squeeze and grab them for a treat, at the tender age of about 5, that the voice in my head was correct. Actually, there were two voice–my egocentric one that encouraged me to go after my every desire and the other wise one that told me this was going to get me into trouble. Which did I tune into and which did I tune out of? And by the way, my mother walked in and saw me playing in the refrigerator and knew exactly what I was up to–she was tuned into everything!
You have a story that you can recount right now. It is something silly and from childhood and you ended up getting into trouble because you didn’t listen to what life was telling you that was so very right. Can you recall it?
Hopefully, as we grow up we get a sense of desire to do the right thing and not create trouble for ourselves, not ignore the voice that guides us, the one connected to the earth, our ancestors, our parents, and our Creator–whatever you believe that to be.
We have choices, moment to moment and one breath at a time. We have a life that has no known closing date but it always ends at the wrong time–because we forever want a bit more time. And yet, we are very cavalier about our time in this life and about the way we make judgements about the events presented to us that capture our time. There is no such thing as a waste of time–every moment is offered up and what we do with it is what makes the profound difference.
What is life telling you to do today? What is taking place that is actually a set of signals for you to pay attention to? What signs are there trying to illuminate a pathway for you that are as clear as the ground beneath your feet? They are present. They will guide you. Take a breath and believe that you can see and feel and experience the wisdom of your inner self.
Do it now.
