Are you held captive?

by drdeb / Wednesday, 12 March 2014 / Published in Advice, Attitude, Be Your Best Self, Build the Strength Within, Human Behavior, Partners In Excellence, Stress, Well-being, Wellness

Do you believe that you are destined to be happy, depressed, have a stroke or cancer, be overweight, or drink alcohol because your parents did or your grandparents or aunts and uncles did? When science introduced the ideas about heredity and genetics, they did us some good and also cost us a bit in our mindfulness and internal freedoms.

What we inherit has a whole lot to do with social psychology and the nature versus nurture argument that is as old as the planet, most likely. Who is right? And is anybody wrong?

Both yes and both no.

Epigenetics provides some very clear insights about changes that take place in our gene activity that extends beyond our DNA sequence. The science here is about the reality that choices we make, the mental energy we expend, the behavioral activities we engage in all influence our inherit-abilty. This is not new wave, new age, revolutionary thinking. The concept dates back to the 1940s to describe the differentiation of cells from their initial state in embryonic development. Biologists and psychologists have had a long fascination with the questions about how personality is formed and how it impacts the state of well being of a person. The research is in depth and complex. Reading it will take your mind and emotions on a journey into the unknown territory of your brain where you are forced to think critically in every sense.

For this blog however, I invite you to simplify and consider the lovely aspects of this news and this perspective about inherit-ability and wellness.

If you have a lineage of any particular illness or disorder or personality characteristic, ask yourself if it is what you crave for your self and for your destiny. Take a long look at who your ancestors are, including your parents. Invite yourself to review their finer points and their faults–we all have both. Allow your mind and your heart to select that which is the best and to know you can take on those aspects of that person and set the others to the side if you make the significant choices necessary if you are to cut a new, healthier pathway for you own life experience.

Think about it, feel about it. I’ll be sharing more on this topic and inviting you to Blueprint your mind, body, and spirit. Get ready by reshaping your perspective today–right now. Break out form being held captive by old beliefs and images–see your being as strong and power filled, with an internal strength that you can tap healthfully.
