Did you know that his life spanned from 1452 – 1519? His legal name was Leonardo Di Ser Piero Da Vinci. Amazing man and beautiful story all because of the power of his mind and the action steps he took. Think about it — this man is still alive for us today, the Da Vinci code was written and made into a Hollywood movie only a few short years ago? Why? What makes this man from ancient times relevant for us today?
He is relevant because his genius is tangibly the creative process of his mind and the outcomes he produced. A bit of research on Google will reveal to you he conceptualized and created the ever famous Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, and Vitruvian Man. He conceptualized flying machines, solar power, the adding machine, and the double hull in addition to the parachute, helicopter, and military tank. He is, rightfully, referred to as the Universal Genius and Renaissance Man.
People ask how did he accomplish all of this? Was it a gift from the heavens? Was it his education?
He had no formal academic training. My thinking is that he allowed his mind to wander into creativity and he recorded his thoughts. Indeed, he spent his life with a pencil and notebook in tow — all of the time. He wrote, sketched, drew, painted, scribbled, and developed his thoughts tangibly. Author Michael Gelb has shared many of his works in his various boooks about Da Vinci. Fascinating.
It is as applicable to us today as each one of us allows. How often do you have a great insight or vision of something, a way to enhance a process or just simply a good idea…? Daily. However, these thoughts are creative and they move thrugh the mind fast and if not captured on the moment, they disappear.
Capture them. Become habitual about writing the thoughts you have down; it is genius activity.
You ARE a thinking, feeling, creative being. Envision that you indulge yourself into your mind fully and see what emerges in the way of anything and everything. Explore within your mind what pours forth when you direct those creative energies towards your personal and professional development.
